Lebanese elections deepens the hopelessness

The next parliamentary elections are the talk of the town.... Sadly it seems that the expectations are low which is generating hopelessness.

It is as if a veil of fatalism has shrouded Lebanon. This translates into a brain drain that will undermine the future of the country. Thirty five percent of the medical professionals left the country in one year. Teachers, chefs, programmers, engineers, in shorts any person with skills are leaving the country. In just one year one hundred thousand left. In a country of four millions, it is unbelievable. Lebanese are good emigrants, they are occidentalized, speak foreign languages, and integrate easily. A curse of sorts.

All statistics firms are publishing that 70% of voters are angry with the present state of affairs. They feels that they have been robbed of their livelihood, dignity, and hope by the political class.

What drives them, for the first time, is not sectarianism or ideology. All surveys show that many or them do not know for whom to vote or if they will vote. They are not finding a replacement for the political class.

The opposition and those who supposedly are 'the revolutionaries' failed those who took the streets in protest. They did not form unified lists. They are fighting internally over political gains and seats.

Sadly, this will lead to strengthening the political class and giving them credibility.

It is a failure of the intelligentsia and opinion leaders.

They are shooting themselves in the foot.
