I want to hope that 2023 will herald the age of Aquarius...

Fifty years ago, never fathomed the amount of hate and bigotry we are seeing in the world. From the rise of intolerance all over the world, Trump and populism in the US, Brexit, to the rise of the national socialism or if you want the extreme right in Sweden, Italy, and Orban in Hungary.

In 2018 I felt hopeless when I saw the rehabilitation of a dictator that barrel bombed and gazed his people to stay in power in Syria. Putin was his main supporter and today Putin is repeating his crimes against civilians in Ukraine enabled and empowered by many in Europe saying at the time "not in my backyard!"
I am saddened by the lack of empathy for the haunted looks of so many children living in refugee tents. These children were Rohingya, Syrian, Yemeni, and today they are Ukrainians. I am angered by politicians using the refugees as scapegoats to feed their electoral ambitions.
I am angry at the erosion of women rights in Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, and the US where Trump is elected, he appoints a majority of super conservative to the Constitutional Court, Roe vs Wade is overturned and the rights of choice for a woman is undermined. End result: white men decide for us, they own us!

Yet not all that happened in the last decade is bad. We discovered that there's mineable ice on Mars, we found a way to grow vegetables without earth or daylight, we discovered a warm-blooded fish called Opah, we created a DNA Nano robot that can kill cancer cells, and we did tremendous advancement at the level of using stem cells to cure many diseases and open windows of hope for MS, Leukemia, Alzheimer, and blindness.
Covid-19 changes our way of life. How we work, how we socialize, how we interact; how we shop, and so much more; so many died before their time, children were separated from their friends without knowing why, people lost their jobs and in countries where there is no social net, people went hungry. But we managed to adapt to new methodologies of work and life. We did not let self-isolation depress us. We stayed connected with friends and found ways and means to interact virtually. A blessing. We developed vaccines, and today the pandemic is behinds us because it is under control.

But today, while waiting for the end of 2022, I wondered if I was wrong in not counting my blessings.
I was not infected by the virus, and I did not lose any of my close family to the virus. A blessing.
I am the grandmother of two beautiful and healthy girls. I became closer to my lovely 6 year and 2 years old granddaughters. Lots of family quality time. A blessing.

My hopes and dreams in the seventies went along with John Lennon's song Imagine. I believed in the age of Aquarius, a 5th Dimension song.
Still, I want to believe that love will prevail in the end. I may be an optimist, an idealist, even childish, or whatever you want to call me.
I just do not want to be bitter and disillusioned. I want to dream and hope. This is how I am, and this is how I remain.

The Age of Aquarius
Lyrics
When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
The age of Aquarius!
Aquarius!
Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind's true liberation
Aquarius!
When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
The age of Aquarius
Aquarius!
by the 5th Dimension

Lyrics
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do be able to
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will live as one
